About the Event

Well, the details are starting to fall into place, as unlikely as that might seem. Here's an overview of what we hope the wedding will be all about.

Anyone who knows us at all knows that we are pretty casual, nontraditional, creative types. So the primary thing that we know this wedding is going to be about is fun and celebration and good music and food and dancing, NOT fancy cakes and $10,000 gowns and "Here Comes the Bride." So prepare yourself for a nontraditional, informal, and super fun, event! The event is going to have a casual, country theme.

Date: Saturday July 24, 2004.

Ceremony Time: 9:30 am

Ceremony Location: The ceremony will be held on a bluff overlooking Lake Pepin at Frontenac State Park (which is between Lake City and Red Wing Minnesota).

Reception Location/Time: The reception will be at the Music Loft at Hobgoblin Music, a great big barn in Red Wing, Minnesota with a folk and traditional instrument and music store in the bottom level. We don't expect the ceremony to take too long, so the reception should get started by around 11:00 am.

Reception Music: We're really excited to have The Buffalo Gals playing at the reception. They're a super awesome bluegrass/old-time/traditional/folk/country swing band and we know they'll get everyone dancing.

Reception food: With the ceremony being in the morning, we're planning on a brunch menu for the reception, so get ready for yummy waffles and fruit and yep, our favorite drink, mimosas! If logistics work out, we're hoping that Chickadee Cottage, a wonderful restaurant in Lake City, will be catering a lot of the food. We're also hoping to get our cakes from Cafe Phoenix, our favorite restaurant in our old stomping grounds, Grinnell, Iowa, but we're still working on the logistics of that. Finally, we also welcome food contributions from attendees, feel free to bring a pot luck dish to share!

Hints and Details

Ceremony

We will be paying park entrance fees for all guests. Please carpool with other guests from your hotel or from the Twin Cities. This helps keep our costs down, because we pay by the vehicle. If you are a Minnesota resident, and already have a park pass, please take that vehicle to the ceremony.

On the morning of the ceremony, the park will open at 7:00 a.m. Drive up to the ceremony site, which will be near the gazebo overlooking Lake Pepin, at Point No-Point. If you do not have a park pass, the parking co-ordinator will give you a card to place on your dashboard.

In case of light rain, the ceremony will go on as planned. In case of tornado, hurricane, or other force majeur, the ceremony will be held at Hobgoblin Music. The decision will be at our discretion, decided that morning. If the event that it is held at Hobgoblin, the ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. to ensure ample time for the drive over. If you are unsure, call the wedding co-ordinator (TBA) or go to the park office.

There will be danishes, and other gnoshy foods served at the ceremony.

Reception

There will be some vegan food at the reception, and almost all the food will be vegetarian (Ovo-Lacto). If you are worried, contact us, and we'll discuss it further. Hobgoblin is a non-smoking facility, though there will be smoking outside. The meal will be a brunch consisting of an egg dish, some breads, fruit, potatoes, etc. There will also be cake.

Entertainment will be a square/contra dance, so wear comfy shoes and loose clothes. Minnesota gets hot in the summer!

So, that's what we've got so far. We'll keep filling in details here as they solidify. And please, Email Us with any suggestions or ideas!
