About Us

Obviously, if you know us well, this stuff is not new, but might at least be funny. However, since a lot of our friends and relatives certainly know one of us better than the other, we thought we'd give you a little background.

Cathryn

Cathy is a Minnesota native, she grew up in Eagan, a suburb of St. Paul. She is the child of a Canadian Math and Computer Science Professor (Shirley) and her Pennsylvanian Engineer husband (David), who still live in the house she grew up in Eagan. She has one 20 year old brother who is currently working on his undergraduate degree at Mankato State University (in Mankato, Minnesota). She went to Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa, for her undergraduate degree. She majored in Sociology with a concentration in Gender and Women's Studies. In October, she got a new job, still with the State of Minnesota Department of Human Services, she's now a Documentation Specialist for the HealthMatch project - a project working to automate Minnesota's public health care eligibility systems. She loves this job and it much more closely matches her education, interests, and training than anything she's had previously. She's also working on her Master's degree in Library and Information Science at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, and hopes to complete that by Fall of 2005. She likes to read (some favorite books: The English Patient, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, The Alienist, Alias Grace), watch movies, work on the BiCities cable access television show, play handbells at church, and even exercise (pilates is her current torture routine of choice).

Gregg

Gregg grew up in Chicopee Massachusetts, a suburb of Springfield, where his mother (Judy) still lives. Gregg's father died in 1990. Gregg is the baby of a Brady Bunch family, when his mother and father married both had three children from previous marriages, so he has six older half-siblings (and many nieces and nephews)! Looking for a more challenging environment than high school could provide, Gregg started college when he was 16 at Simon's Rock College in Great Barrington Massachusetts, a college set up especially for "younger scholars." After two years there he transferred to, of all places, Grinnell, where he and Cathy met. He majored in Anthropology and General Science. After graduating from Grinnell in 1998 he lived and worked all over the country doing archeological field work. Gregg is now a full-time graduate student at the University of Minnesota. He is working on a Master's in Biostatistics. He's also working part time in the Epidimiology department, as a TA, and volunteering. He likes reading and movies and working on BiCities too (go figure), he also likes making music and coding websites (this one is a joint venture, but Gregg's got the majority of the expertise).

How We Met

Sad to say, our "how we met story" is not that exciting. We were friends at Grinnell but did not date. We kept up a correspondence and started visiting each other in 2001, when Gregg lived in Milwaukee and Cathy in St. Paul. That long-distance relationship lasted more than a year, during which we took turns visiting each other pretty much once a month. In April of 2002 we decided that we didn't want to be so far apart and Gregg moved here to St. Paul, where we've been ever since.
